Given the very challenging context for free expression in East Africa, our long-term partner in Uganda, Bayimba, together with its regional partners, find it relevant and appropriate to invest in the revival of the spirit of artistic activism and advocacy to give hope and confidence within the working environment.
There is also a pressing need to invest in the protection of artists at risk in secure ways that do no harm neither to the artists at risk, nor to Bayimba itself. As the process of finalizing the ArtWatch application continues – Bayimba and its app developing partners like Auxfin International and Arterial Network - are confident that this App will be a game changer when it comes to the vitality of Artistic expressions and creation of real time mitigations and emergency support mechanisms for practitioners in danger facing the risk of human rights violations. The app will provide artists an alerting service for use when in situations of risk.
