Basecamp Maasai Brand (BMB) was set up in 2003 to empower women in the Talek region of the Masai Mara, and to maintain the handicraft traditions of the famous Masai bead works. Mimeta got involved in BMB by engaging Norwegian designer Cecilie Melli to increase sales.

Call from Artists & Intellectuals: Workshop of artistic reflection on Democracy in Africa In front of the sociopolitical situation Mali is facing today, the Centre Culturel Kôrè of Ségou and the Centre Soleil d’Afrique of Bamako initiated a workshop that served as a space for artistic creation on the change occurring in Mali since March 22, 2012, and reflection on democracy in Africa.

Book Cafe regrets the cancellation of the performance by Sakaki Mango, Japanese Afro-Asian maestro, with Netsayi as the support act on Thursday 31 May; and the disappointment for members of the public. All necessary steps had been taken, together with co-sponsors the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, to produce the show. The band undertook a wonderful series of workshops for younger Zimbabwean musicians in Murewha and Harare. No problems were foreseen.

The heritage, they are common property, tangible and intangible, that belong to all and that the entire community has inherited. Heritage are the manuscripts that make the singularity and pride in Timbuktu, Mali and Africa, they are the tombstones and mausoleums, houses and ancient streets, all built structures of the ancient cities, historic sites and cultural, all knowledge.

The GoDown Art Center, Museum of Architecture, Culture Center in Stockholm and Mimeta share visions for cities where culture is in the core of development. This project has received support from the Swedish Postcode Lottery. Cities shape culture and culture shape cities, thus participation of inhabitants become essential in shaping vision or plans. Ultimately this is a democracy issue.
