“Racines will have to implement the next steps of its project and organize meetings with the audiences in four regions in the country to complete this huge research. Then, the writing of the cultural policy proposal will start before we produce a bilingual (Arabic and French) publication, which will be presented to the whole Moroccan creative sector, stakeholders, including the ministers of culture, education, finances, tourism, artists, cultural operators, media as well as 100 delegates from the 40 National Chapters of Arterial Network”, Dounia Benslimane, Racines
The recent past of Arab countries reveals that changes do not automatically guarantee a functioning democracy. Radical changes are needed to learn how to understand the other, to accept differences and beliefs. Racines was established in 2010 by a group of cultural and human rights activists. The organization advocates and campaigns for cultural development through rising awareness, information, research and debates and launch of their cultural policy project: “Inventory and diagnosis of arts and culture in Morocco. Towards General Statements of Culture”. A website is being set up to present a mapping and extensive data about the Moroccan creative sector.
