Mimeta had for a long time been partner of The Harare Book Café in Zimbabwe, and witnessed the popular position of the extensive art scene. In 2017 Mimeta entered an agreement for cooperation with the Harare International Festival of the Arts in an attemt to keep this former strong and independent platform going, even in a politically tourmented time. It did not succeed.
Since its inception in 1999, the HIFA had received recognition for its support of arts and culture in Zimbabwe and was seen as a major contributor to development in this area. HIFA was the largest cultural event in Zimbabwe and among the eight major festivals in Africa.
