Ettijahat also conducts a research program which Mimeta has supported since its inception in 2012, Mimeta being the sole benefactor for this project for many years.
The research papers produced over the previous edition of ‘Research’ were presented in the framework of the Sixth Conference of the Arab Council for Social Sciences, which was held in May 2023 and entitled “Producing Critical Knowledge in the Arab Region”, where more than 3,000 participants had the opportunity to see the work of the researchers. In this session,
Ettijahat presented several research projects that reflect on the path of art production in the Syrian diaspora and the course of transformations in the production of visual, performing and cinematic arts, during which reliance was made on sociological approaches to reflect on the presence of art production as a social phenomenon and the interacting social, political and economic factors with it.
The 2023-2024 edition of ‘Research’ selected 20 researchers (14 female and 7 male) from the Arab region who are currently conducting research contributions to creative projects and art productions in the Syrian and Lebanese contexts. 19 of these researchers will have their work published in 2024.
The work to publish previous research papers in books with specific topics has also continued, with research from the 2021-2022 edition of the program being published in the book titled, ‘’A Decade of Arts.’’. This book is part of three books that we will publish about Syrian artistic production. The books address questions about Syrian artistic production as an intensification of cultural and artistic production questions in the Arab region amidst transformation and change. Therefore, these papers are an attempt to understand the depth and dimensions of the ongoing cultural change today and to envision the future of arts in Syria in light of its engagement with the region.
In 2023, the Research programme was also supported by the German Federal Foreign Office, which increased the number of research projects and publications and ensured a wider circulation among professionals in the research field through partnerships with universities.
