AMA was initiated by the Young Arab Theatre Fund (YATF) and a group of African and Arab organisations to facilitate and encourage the mobility of artists and cultural operators within the African continent. AMA has been incubated in July 2005 by YATF and became an independent international organization in February 2008.

 

The Grants Program:

Since its inception in July 2005 AMA has organized fourteen sessions to evaluate applications received from all over Africa sent by cultural practitioners active in the African creative civil society sector (performing arts, visual arts, music, film, craft, literature, cultural heritage, advocacy and entrepreneurship….etc) to implement a wide range of qualitative projects (Festivals, productions, touring, Exhibitions, residencies, capacity building workshops, education and social change through the arts, researches, meetings, forums, networks and …etc) aiming to develop the African creative sector, to contribute to the development, to eradicate poverty and to  advocate for human rights, democracy and freedom of speech.

Applications are received from all African countries sent by cultural practitioners living and working in capital cities, cultural African hubs as well as provincial towns.
