Article 27 guarantees the right for EVERYONE to participate in cultural life and is a fundamental part of Mimeta’s vision. Both through our local partnerships and focus on narrative change, Mimeta works toward highlighting issues of inequality and discrimination.
The aspect of narratives and who is presenting them goes to the heart of inclusion and is integral to Mimeta’s work. In the past, and 2023, Mimeta and partners have focused on telling the story of underprivileged groups, such as refugees. Partners organisations such as Ettijahat and L'Art Rue have an emphasised focus on the issue of inclusion of marginalised communities, including projects focused on telling the story of refugees, minorities, women and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as people with disabilities. L'Art Rue’s latest edition of their festival, Dream City, included specific events which focused on inclusion such as a performance focused on the inaccessibility of the urban space, with inclusionary participation in the performance.
Another partner organisation, Action 4 Hope supported the UNESCO ArtLab with a grant to support the organisation of a workshop in Morocco, which included training on Cultural Rights and the ethics of conducting inclusive artistic interventions based on cultural rights focusing on women and youth with disabilities.
